Fern’s first foray into theater was as an actor in THE DETECTIVE STORY (1995), an off-Broadway showcase. She played “The Woman.” (She was perfectly cast.) After graduating from the Commercial Theatre Institute under the direction of Fred Vogel, she joined the producing team of the Lucille Lortel Award-winning Off-Broadway production of SHAKESPEARE’S ROMEO & JULIET (1998) as Associate Producer. An awkward little girl with a great big voice. An underdog who didn’t fit the mold. An American icon who almost wasn’t. CHASING RAINBOWS; THE ROAD TO OZ is the story of how Francis Gumm won the role of Dorothy in the beloved movie musical The Wizard of Oz.  This inspiring story of Judy’s journey from performing in Vaudeville with her family to becoming America’s sweetheart, remains widely unknown.  Inspired by the Quote “The history of my life is in my songs”, CHASING RAINBOWS has made a special arrangement with Sony/ATV to bring contemporary life to classic favorites of the popular music of the 1930’s, including “Over the Rainbow”, “You Made Me Love You”, “Everybody Sings”, and many more, in order to tell this emotional and powerful story of the childhood of one of the world’s greatest entertainers.

As lead Producer, I optioned and developed an off-Broadway showcase in June 2009 “How refreshing!” –The New York Times

Performed by Obie-award winner Marcia Jean Kurtz, and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo.

Heart of the City is the quintessential New York tale -- from a woman on the ultimate date-from-hell; to a mismatched romance on the Brooklyn IRT; to a young artist trying to juggle inspiration and a survival job; to a couple hoping to conceive a child; plus a lesson on the proper way to make a Matzo ball.  This play artfully combines humor, joy, sorrow, love and romance as it takes you on a dazzling ride of the heart.
